I'd like to introduce myself here on my new website. This a way for you to get to know a little bit about who is behind the bow tie design and inspiration here at Dapper Guy Bow Ties.
My name is Aimee. I'm a 32 year old mother to two beautiful children, and wife to a pretty dang cool meteorologist/web developer. My life has been a pretty interesting journey that continues to get cooler as I savor the good things thrown at me.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma. After I graduated from high school I attended the University of Oklahoma and received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology/Criminology. After graduating I was hired on at a police department to become a police officer! What?!?! Yep, I used to be a police officer. I was once told that I was probably the only officer who could give someone a ticket then have them tell me thank you.
Fast forward a few years and my son was born (on the 4th of July no less). Turns out I wasn't finding boys' accessories very cute when it was time for Spencer to meet Santa. So, I made a feeble attempt at making a bow tie for him. It actually turned out good! It took me all night by golly, but I made it. I loved how it looked so much I decided to try another. By that time I was boasting about how cute my little man looked. I ended up having a few people ask if I could make one for them. And thus, Dapper Guy Bow Ties was born.
I adore Doctor Who and Harry Potter. We actually named our daughter Clara, which we got from Doctor Who. I just learned how to knit and am working on a kick ass blanket! I consider myself a crunchy mama. I had a beautiful home birth with my second and would definitely go that route again. I cloth diaper (guess how many Doctor Who and Harry Potter diapers I have?), babywear and love being outside...in the sun...on a warm day. If you were to see me in public, you would see me wearing my Mama Mermaid sling, carrying Clara, chasing after Spencer, hair in a messy bun on the top of my head and hopefully a little eyeliner.

What was simply a project for a photo with Santa, turned out to be my passion. I love creating and never knew it! I have a blast picking out fabrics and seeing if I can make color combos work together. I have also since moved from just using cotton to using 100% linen and 100% silk. Linen is incredible! It is hands down my favorite fabric to work with! Silk is so beautiful when the whole project is finished. It's a harder fabric to work with, but worth the extra time.
As far as building a bow tie, I do almost all of the work myself. When the season is busy I have a little help from my husband. He'll will iron and cut the fabric for me if needed. I've had other friends and family help out as well. But I am such a perfectionist in my craft that I take it all on myself 95% of the time. I have an office in my house that I've dedicated for my work. It has made life 10 times easier when I'm looking for fabric, or even switching from cutting the fabric to ironing the interfacing. Everything is within arms reach for me now.
I have a lot in store for Dapper Guy Bow Ties. I am booking more weddings because brides are seeing a need for custom bow ties to work with their wedding colors and themes. I am expanding my men's line to include more choices, and eventually self-tie bow ties! Eeeeek! So many good things are coming into the works here.
